Deliberating on Annexation under International Law with Special Emphasis on Non-Self Governing Territories
Overview
The acquisition of territory by force is prohibited under the UN Charter, yet annexation remains one of the most contested questions in international affairs. From occupied territories to disputed island chains, states continue to extend sovereignty over land whose status the international community refuses to recognise, while the people who live there are rarely asked what they want.
For Non-Self-Governing Territories, the question is sharper still. Under Chapter XI of the UN Charter, administering powers hold these territories as a sacred trust, and their peoples hold the right to self-determination. SPECPOL will examine where lawful administration ends and unlawful annexation begins, how far recognition and non-recognition shape the legal reality on the ground, and what the United Nations can realistically do when the law and the facts diverge.
Addressing the Systematic Collapse of Human Rights, Widespread War Crimes, and the Protection of Civilians in the Republic of Sudan
Overview
The current situation in Sudan is nothing short of catastrophic — it has fundamentally altered the lives of millions of people in the region. What was once a peaceful region has become a contested frontier for the Sudanese Government and the Rapid Support Forces, with alleged involvement of foreign elements.
This committee faces an urgent dilemma: resolving a crisis where the ordinary Sudanese citizen cannot access basic rights — food, water, health, and life itself — while ensuring that dialogue remains constructive and does not accelerate the conflict. Delegates will engage in formal debate under the mandate, balancing accountability with the imperative of peace.
Procedure
This committee will strictly proceed under UNA-USA rules of procedure, which will be briefed to delegates before committee begins.
The German Invasion of Poland on September 1, 1939
Overview
On 1 September, Nazi Germany declares war on Poland. This was the event that triggered World War II. On the very next day, Britain gives an ultimatum to Nazi Germany. The next day, France and Britain declare war on Nazi Germany.
This was not a time of mass destruction, but the beginning of something the world did not yet know. Winston Churchill is being made Prime Minister of Britain. In the East, the Empire of Japan has been attacking and invading countries, and these attacks unified China for a period of time.
Delegates will try to maintain peace before it is too late. They will reshape and rewrite history before the world collapses. This agenda is unique, as it allows them to reshape the world in EMUN.
Quote
“This is not a question of fighting for Danzig or fighting for Poland. We are fighting to save the whole world from the pestilence of Nazi tyranny and in defence of all that is most sacred to man.”
